Liposuction

Reasons to have this surgery

Typical fat distribution problems, known as lipodystrophies, are found in the outer thigh area (saddlebags in women) or on the chest (gynecomastia in men). For the most part, these fat storage areas cannot be adequately controlled by exercise or dieting and can be a significant strain on an individual’s body image. Lipodystrophies in other areas, such as the inner thighs, stomach or upper arms, can also greatly limit mobility.

The surgical technique

Since the 1970’s, liposuction has been an established procedure performed by skilled plastic surgeons. A widely accepted method of liposuction is the tumescence method, whereby fatty tissue is first bloated by a special liquid solution. After a certain reaction time, the fat cells are easily unhinged from their connective tissue using fine canulae. One of the most modern methods is vibration-assisted liposuction (PAL= Power-Assisted Lipoplasty). Even extraction is achieved using this technique and delicate neighboring structures such as nerves, vessels and connective tissue are protected.

Procedure

Depending on the number and size of the areas, the procedure can last between 1 to 2 hours. Smaller liposuctions can be performed as outpatient surgeries under local anesthetic or twilight sleep. For larger quantities, we recommend general anesthetic followed by supervision for 1 night. Special compression shorts must be worn for 6 weeks afterwards. The first examination is conducted after 1 week, and the final examination after 12 weeks.
